Optimal performance of parallel-server systems with job size prediction errors

چکیده
Modern communication networks integrate distributed computing architectures, in which customers are processed parallel. We show how to minimize the waiting time of customer's jobs by leveraging a simple threshold-based job dispatching policy. The optimal policy leverages SITA routing, assigns servers according size job. Moreover, permits optimize system performance even when is not known priori and estimated means error-prone predictors.

Performance Prediction of Parallel Processing Systems : The
In this paper we present a new methodology for the performance prediction of parallel programs on parallel platforms ranging from shared-memory to distributed-memory (vector) machines. The methodology comprises a procedural program and machine spec-iication paradigm based on Pamela (PerformAnce ModEling LAnguage), along with a performance calculus, called "serializa-tion analysis". This calculu...
متن کاملOptimal Server Allocation in Reconfigurable Clusters with Multiple Job Types
We examine a system where the servers in a cluster may be switched dynamically and preemptively from one kind of work to another. The demand consists of M job types joining separate queues, with different arrival and service characteristics, and also different relative importance represented by appropriate holding costs. The switching of a server from queue i to queue j incurs a cost which may ...
متن کاملPerformance Prediction for Large Scale Parallel Systems
In both the design of parallel computer systems and the development of applications, it is very important to have good performance prediction tools. This paper describes a new approach -PetaSIM, which is designed for the rapid prototyping stage of machine or application design. Computers, networks and applications are described as objects in a Java IDL (Interface Definition Language) with speci...
متن کاملAn optimal dispatching model for server-to-customer systems with classification errors
The decision of which servers to dispatch to which customers is an important aspect of serverto-customer systems. Such decisions are complicated when servers have different operating characteristics, customers are prioritized, and there are errors in assessing customer priorities. In this paper, we formulate a model for determining how to optimally dispatch distinguishable servers to prioritize...

Replies Greg Franks C. M. Woodside Department of Systems and Computer Engineering Carleton University Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K1S 5B6 Abstract Client-Server systems generally use the sendreceive-reply messaging paradigm for inter-process communication. In the most general case, the server process can be structured to continue to execute after replying to the client. Analytic models for closed ...
